National Safety Board Says Mass lags on repeat drunk driving measures

The National Transportation Safety Board said Massachusetts has enacted only four of the 11 measures the safety agency believes are most effective at deterring the repeat offenders and heavy drinkers who cause the vast majority of alcohol-related automobile fatalities.  The federal safety board is pressuring Massachusetts lawmakers to strengthen OUI laws to increase the number of confiscated and immobilized vehicles.

Although the federal board is asking Massachusetts to enact more drunk driving regulations, Massachusetts continues to have among the lowest number of drunken driving deaths per capita and per mile driven in the country.  But advocates for tougher laws say the low fatality rate is largely a result of congestion and population density that keep speeds in the state in check.

The challenge with increasing the penalties of the laws is making sure public safety is enhanced while constitutional safeguards are also protected.  These new laws and stricter enforcements have yet to be passed.  If changes in the laws are made then Brooks and Crowley will use there over thirty years of combined experience to ensure that your constitutional rights are upheld and use their knowledge of the current laws and potential new restrictions to give you the best defense possible.  If you find yourself charged with an OUI, Brooks and Crowley have the experience and knowledge to defend you and ensure that you receive the best legal coverage possible.
